Being invited as a speaker at the Madrid Design Festival while still a fourth-year Fine Arts and Multimedia Design student was both an honor and a formative experience. I presented our collective work for El Prado en Vol. with the Museo del Prado, a project that asked us a deceptively simple but profound question: How can new technologies and digital design be used to reinterpret a work of art?

This challenge required us to position ourselves between two worlds—the permanence of classical heritage and the fluid, ever-evolving realm of digital culture. Our proposal, the creation of a meta filter, became not just a technical solution but a conceptual bridge. It was designed to reframe the original artwork, inviting modern audiences to engage with it in a new way—through interactivity, accessibility, and resonance with contemporary visual languages.

Reflecting on this process during the festival talk, I realized that digital tools are not only instruments of translation but also of transformation. They allow us to open up timeless works to fresh interpretations without diluting their essence, enabling audiences to feel their relevance in the present. For me, this project was less about “modernizing” the artwork and more about finding a common ground where tradition and innovation coexist, where art history speaks fluently to digital natives.

Speaking at the festival gave me the chance to articulate this vision publicly, to share how design can extend the life of cultural heritage by creating new points of contact with society. It was a reminder that as designers and artists, our role is not only to create but also to act as interpreters and mediators—ensuring that the voices of the past continue to be heard, understood, and reimagined for the future.
